Why will Demand for Tunnel Automation Explode in Europe in Coming Years?

The tunnel automation industry will expand massively during 2021–2030. Highway and roadway and railway tunnels are the major types of tunnels in which these solutions are incorporated. Between these, the demand for tunnel automation solutions was observed to be higher in railway tunnels in 2020. Fire and safety, lighting and power supply, ventilation, signalization, communication, and air conditioning systems are some of the major components of railway tunnel automation solutions. These components massively improve tunnel functioning and reduce the incidence of accidents in tunnels. Amongst these, the demand for HVAC systems was found to be the highest in 2020. 



These systems were incorporated extensively in tunnel automation solutions in the past, primarily due to the huge requirement for proper ventilation in tunnels. Across the world, the demand for tunnel automation solutions will be the highest in Europe in the forthcoming years, as per the forecast of P&S Intelligence, a market research company based in India. 

This is credited to the implementation of several initiatives and launch of various projects by the governments of the regional countries for optimizing transportation systems, the existence of various mountain ranges, surging prevalence of road accidents, burgeoning requirement for public transportation systems, and growing public awareness of road and rail safety in the region.

Therefore, it can be safely said that the demand for tunnel automation solutions will explode in the coming years, primarily because of the surging number of tunnel construction projects and growing incidence of road accidents across the world.
