The conventionally used wide area network (WAN) solutions are not sufficient for protecting the network from cyber attacks and threats and providing effective security control for various cloud applications. Furthermore, these solutions provide the information technology (IT) departments deep visibility into WAN and allow them to rapidly detect and pinpoint a security threat. As per the Microsoft IoT Signals Report 2019, as much as 85% of the total number of respondents (3,000) have adopted the IoT.


The report also found that nearly 75% of the respondents are working on various IoT-based assignments and projects. The several challenges associated with big data and the IoT such as the high costs of implementation, data privacy, issues with the management and handling of the data, security issues, and the lack of adequate knowledge are pushing up the requirement for SD-WAN solutions. This is because these solutions help IT professionals manage these challenges.
